Monument of Catherine II

Monument of Catherine II is set in St. Petersburg in 1873. Author of project is M. Mikeshin, sculptors are M.Chizhov, A.Opekushin. The monument was erected in the square on the Nevsky Prospekt (about Aleksandrinsky Theatre and the Russian National Library). A bronze plaque placed on the pedestal of the monument with the inscription and symbols of prosperity of the state: scroll (represents the development of science, a palette and a brush (a symbol of art), ears of corn and grapes (the symbol of agriculture), sword and anchor (symbols of military and naval affairs.) There are nine powerful bronze figures of the nobles on the podium who helped the development of sciences, arts, military and naval affairs, the prosperity of the state. Empress displayed in full-length, facing to the Nevsky Prospekt. There is a scepter in her right hand in her left is a laurel wreath a symbol of glory. The monument resembles a baby pyramid: a powerful pedestal, over statuary monument and even higher the figure of queen.
